ACCESS LEVEL: RESTRICTED
FILE DESIGNATION: ASYNC-LEVEL-0-DOCUMENTATION
STATUS: Unverified Spatial Anomaly
CLASSIFICATION: Dimensional Instability Zone
Level 0 is widely regarded as the primary entry point into the spatial anomaly commonly referred to as the Backrooms. The environment consists of a vast, seemingly infinite network of randomly segmented office-like rooms characterized by faded yellow wallpaper, low industrial carpeting, and a grid of fluorescent lighting fixtures.
Initial reports indicate the level exhibits non-Euclidean spatial behavior. Rooms repeat with slight variations, and navigation paths rarely maintain logical continuity. Subjects frequently report traveling in straight lines for extended periods only to reappear at previously visited locations.
The architecture of Level 0 resembles outdated commercial office interiors from the late 20th century. The walls are covered with monochromatic yellow wallpaper that appears stained and deteriorated with age. The flooring consists of thin industrial carpet panels that produce minimal sound when walked upon.
Lighting originates from fluorescent fixtures embedded within the ceiling grid. Observers report a persistent electrical hum emitted by these lights. This sound is present in nearly every documented encounter with the level and is often described as psychologically distressing when experienced for extended durations.
This level contains only one known entity, currently designated as the "Bacteria" or also known as the "Howler." It is an estimated 11 ft tall, thin, and black, with a wire-like or skeletal frame. Its behavior includes emitting a loud, disoriented roar and mimicking the sound of the last human it kills. Upon being seen, it will actively pursue the target until out of sight, or may vanish into thin air without explanation. Researchers are continuing to study this phenomenon.
The entity typically appears alone and is not frequently encountered. Observers notice that its loud noises may temporarily attract its attention. Explorers are advised to avoid direct contact and maintain minimal visual exposure whenever possible.
The current hypothesis suggests Level 0 functions as a transitional layer between normal reality and deeper anomalous regions within the Backrooms.
ASYNC ARCHIVE NOTE:
Further research into Level 0 remains ongoing. Personnel are advised to document any additional spatial irregularities encountered during exploration attempts.
